I tutor English and maths primarily to children who are between 7 and 11 years of age.
It can be very frustrating when you want to support your child with their learning but discover that teachers use different terminology and methods to those you used when you were at school. The new terminology might feel like it is a different language to English. Frustration and friction over homework is commonplace, especially if the learner feels the work is too difficult. I can help both you and your child to understand what technical words mean and teach how to apply the methods used in schools today, both quickly and successfully.
I have invested a great deal of time in building up a bank of ideas, principles and resources that help learners to understand methods and to improve the quality of their work. I am very happy to share these with you and your child. Whether you are concerned that your child may be behind, or that they need stretching since they might otherwise become bored, I can help.

Impact
The impact of my teaching has been immense. In fewer than eight sessions, a pupil progressed from typically scoring 6-8 out of 20 on their mental arithmetic test to 16 out of 20.
I have had a major positive impact on children's attitude towards school and learning.
I focus on:
Using methods that increase the likelihood the learner remembering what to do.
Making sure that learners are secure in their understanding of the fundamentals of both English and maths.
I actively seek out gaps in knowledge and understanding and fill those gaps so that your child has firm foundations on which they can build.
Making learning fun I can teach from the comfort of your home.
Price: Lessons are £30 per hour for 1-to-1. Discounts are available for pupils taught in small groups e.g. 2 pupils to 1 adult.
Cancellation
24 hours notice of cancellation is required or the full amount remains due.
My approach:
make sure that learners know not just what methods work, but why they work.
- break work down to make it easier to learn.
- teach learners how to answer questions quickly and correctly.
- teach children how to demonstrate high quality writing – allowing even those who find it a challenge to write many words, to still score highly.
- bring all equipment and resources with me.
- teach people how to improve memory .
- I offer feedback to parents at the end of every lesson.
- I am also available by email to answer questions.
